Dance : histoire d’eux la danse

Dance : histoire d’eux la danse

The MAAS International Theatre Festival invites Olivier Viaud and French Compagnie V.O., to perform Histoire d’eux la Danse.

The show passes through different aesthetics without any words, with delicacy and humor. Hopefully, it will make young spectators want to “grow up with Dance” and for all to recognize its key stages and its rich heritage.

It’s snowing. A little old woman walks waddling. Is it because of the cold or the whiteness of the snow? All of a sudden, she remembers the time when she was… a swan. Her arms that spread gracefully lead her to dance, dance… and then fall. But who is this little old man who comes to her rescue? Wasn’t he, too, a dancer? Her former partner, perhaps?…Histoire d’eux la Danse is a woman/man duo, a contemporary pas-de-deux whose scenography is as much like a castelet as a stage from Noh theatre, then later metamorphosing according to the play. The significant figures, masterpieces, and critical moments in the history of Dance – from Louis XIV to Alwin Nikolaïs, from Basque dances to tap dancing, from Nijinsky and Duncan to hip-hop – are treated here non-linearly. Sometimes in simple evocation, sometimes in direct references, but always as a pretext for dancing. Thus, Histoire d’eux la Danse is passing through different aesthetics without any words, with delicacy humor and, hopefully, will make young spectators want to “grow up with Dance” and for all to recognize its key stages and its rich heritage.
